Mindful Memory Keeping

Inspired living through mindfulness, creativity, and by embracing vulnerability

Project Life|January Update 1

January 21, 2014

IMG_0160_web.jpg

This layout covers January 1-16. I played a little bit of catchup from the beginning of the year and some of my “scrap-as-you-go” approach. Things I’m liking so far are no corner rounding (woohoo!) and using my date stamps. Using the date stamps either directly on the pictures or on the journaling cards lets me know when the events took place but frees me up from having to document with a set time period. I’ve also enjoyed journaling directly on the photos which I had done in previous PL albums. The white pen is the Uniball Signo Broad. I couldn’t find it on Amazon so I’m linking to Simon Says Stamp, one of my fave shops online.

Things I want to find a better system for are: printing square pictures directly from my phone. We have the Epson Artisan 730 printer. I like it since we print photos and documents pretty regularly and it does AirPrint so I can print directly from my iPhone 5 but there is no way to print square photos directly from my phone. So those I have to print from the Mac. Luckily the days of plugging in to sync are gone thanks to iCloud and My Photostream.

Any newbies jumping into Project Life this year? Are you sharing your layouts online? Let me know in the comments, I love to provide encouragement to other scrapbookers!

Nice layout! You continue to motivate me. I have gathered all my scrap booking materials together. Now I have to decide my priority. I started my Moms book and than started my nephews . While searching for pictures, I found loads of pics I want to gather, group and scrap. But my goal 2014 is to stay focused and organized. Finish all my projects. So what to do????? I don’t want to be the Queen of unfinished projects. Thanks for sharing

Regarding Project Life, I’m a mess. I want to do a scrapbook for my Grandfather, who was like my dad, that passed away two years ago. I always looked to my Grandparent’s marriage because it was the only normal marital relationship I’ve ever seen. I’m going to pick up some tips from Marina, and I did make an awesome scrapbook one time with my mother-in-law, which was like 18 years ago. I am also Allison’s mom’s friend, and I would love to take her out for a few outings. She needs fresh air and sunshine once this hideous winter is over (yeah, I’m from Cal, and Massachusetts winters can be brutal!). I’m also going to try the easier recipes from Ally. She is right, her mom is a totally awesome cook. Wish your mom the best, Allison. Des

Thanks for reading! Project Life is an easy way to get large projects done since the focus stays on the story and the photos. Hope I can provide some inspiration to help you get started!

I am on the fence about starting Project Life. I kind of want to do it for some pictures that I have had a long time to go ahead and get them in an album one weekend, but I am not so sure about drinking the kool-aid on doing it in real time. I will probably be all about it, once it goes out of style. That tends to be me. :-) If I talk about it ten more times maybe. I do want my friends who don’t scrapbook at all to do it though. Seems like a good gateway drug.

A Project Life album for your older photos is a great idea! I’ve also shared it with friends who don’t scrapbook or who want to start and you’re right its a great gateway for anyone to start getting their photos and stories documented.

Nice pages! Thanks for linking to the white pen. I struggled to find one that I liked using. I think I’m happy with the Sharpie fine paint pen, but I’m always open to finding something better! I’m starting my third year of Project Life and will continue to do it weekly. I can’t wrap my brain around doing it any other way – besides, I usually have plenty of (okay, too many) pictures for weekly spreads :). It’s funny that you mention being excited about not rounding corners this year, because I’m seriously thinking about rounding mine for the first time. I may regret that about March or April!

Thanks for visiting Kate! Its amazing to see how we all have our individual take on Project Life. I think its one of the great things about this Project, that you can modify it to best fit the way your brain works or how your life is scheduled. Best wishes on the corner rounding ;) Can’t wait to see your pages!
