Inspired living through mindfulness, creativity, and by embracing vulnerability

CHA on interNational Scrapbook Day | Part 1

May 7, 2016

Today is interNational Scrapbooking Day! I’ll be spending the day hanging out with Jamie Leija and the rest of the Simple Scrapper crew. I’ve even contributed a prize package of some goodies from CHA. Join us all weekend long!

In honor of today, I’m flashing back to the BIG scrapbooking event of the season…CHA!

If you’ve been following me on Instagram for a while, you might remember back in January when I was blowing up people’s feeds with photos from the Craft & Hobby Association Trade Show.

It was my first time attending and it was a dream come true. I got to spend three whole days at the show and I am SO grateful to my friend Rachel from Inside Out Visual Journaling for bringing me along.

I’ll be sharing about the show over the next few days so grab a cuppa and get ready for some MAJOR inspiration overload. The good thing is lots of these products are already available since the show was in January and the products are usually released between April-June. You can purchase most of them at scrapbook.com or other online retailers. I’ve linked to as many as possible so you can check them out for yourself.

It was pretty amazing to see all of the newest scrapbooking products up close and in-person but the highlight of the show was getting to meet some of my favorite scrapbooking celebrities like Ali Edwards, Becky Higgins, Heidi Swapp, and Cathy Zielske.

Now onto more of my favorite memories and products from the show floor!

I’ll be sharing more about this company in another post but my winner at the show was Cosmo Cricket. I just love Julie’s Comstock’s new watercolor products. It makes watercolor projects so much easier for those of us who are sometimes mixed media challenged. Their new Pixie Paints make adding a little bit of glimmer to your projects super easy.

Echo Park’s NEW Stateside Collection. Of course, loved the California paper

Faber-Castell’s mixed media booth was GORGEOUS! They had a giant mural and art projects from various mixed media designers decorating their booth. I really loved the art kits they’ve put together.

The Die Cuts with a View Accordion Album is a nice way to compactly document a special event.

Websters Pages Painted Passport Collection. Love the inspiring messages!

Simple Stories Heart Collection with its muted color combo would be really nice to document stories that might be more difficult. There are lots of messages in this collection related to remembering or losing a loved one.

The Crafters Workshop Stencils.

TRENDS

Similar to any big hobby, trends in the papercrafting industry seem to come and go. There were a few noticeable trends that were BIG. I’ve been seeing them all over Instagram for months and some were more surprising to see at CHA than others.

Coloring Books

The adult coloring trend was surprising to see at this particular show. I didn’t realize how much publishers utilized the show for their magazines and books.

There was TONS of mindful coloring-inspired products including this awesome wall from Sizzix. You know I just loved that saying: Take a Moment to Breathe.

More coloring books from Design Originals including one for the gamer in your life.

Prima was also on the adult coloring trend with their watercolor coloring book, new watercolor pans, and watercolor pencils. Their watercolor pencils to represent diverse hair colors and skin tones is a really great idea. The company’s warehouse is actually based in my hometown of Chino. Shout out!
